The First Monday in May
Quite eventful!
In honor of the approaching 2023 Met Gala, I decided to indulge in more Anna Wintour content by watching The First Monday in May, which encapsulated the creative process put into the China: Through the Looking Glass before its debut in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The 2016 documentary also offered an intimate view into the planning of the Met Gala associated with the gallery.
A few takeaways:
I must visit the Costume Institute.
Anna’s right hand is a gorgeous young mom who makes shit happen while holding a Starbucks- like how?
I wish a documentary was created for Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination because I find it really strange- I mean interesting- for a religious institution to get so heavily involved in fashion. No, but the outfits for this theme were incredible.
Whooo was the celebrity Anna was throwing shade about always being on their phone?
So after finishing the other half of the documentary the day of the Met Gala, and messing around in my house, I finally made it out to make a little trip to Trader Joe’s to buy some more lox (I have been so obsessed with lox toast, proof below) and a bottle of sparkling wine to sip on while admiring the anticipated fashion. After I grabbed a bouquet of some pretty tulips and found myself at the lemons and avocados, alarms started going off throughout the store.
