Trying Crumbl Banana Pudding & Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk

As always, serving aesthetics 👛

I haven’t had Crumbl Cookies in a very long time, probably about a year and a half, and with the rise of Dirty Dough and so many people constantly roasting Crumbl for being bland and overly doughy, I was so ready to try again and see for myself if it’s worth it. Especially when I saw banana pudding on their menu for this week, which I have been craving. It feels meant to be because your girl is also on her Lady Time, not to TMI or anything.. Anyways I’ve had Dirty Dough’s chocolate chip cookie a few days in a row a few months ago and have been curious about comparing the two brands. [BTW, did you know the owner of Dirty Dough was once an associate of Crumbl? Apparently they have a huge feud & rivalry 🍵 🍵 🍵]

Banana Pudding 🍌

Very light & fluffy and the perfect balance of bananas and vanilla wafer bits. I’ve heard a YouTube review saying there isn’t enough of a banana flavor- not my take at all. It’s made with vanilla pudding, which is how I make my banana pudding. Very sweet but in a good way. I would get this again. I was able to finish it in one sitting.

Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk 🍪

This was my first time trying a regular chocolate chip cookie from Crumbl and I was very excited, because this basic flavor should determine whether or not Crumbl is actually good. Also because I am a huge fan of semi-sweet and even dark chocolate chunks/chips- not milk chocolate- in my cookies. As I’ve stated above, with soo many YouTubers complaining about how underwhelming Crumbl is [they’ll say there’s no flavor or the cookies are undercooked] I wanted to give my honest opinion.

I was able to eat half of it pretty satisfied, though not overly impressed or anything. While Dirty Dough is way too oily, their chocolate chip cookie is crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, which I like. This cookie had pretty much the same consistency throughout. The edges were soft, as was the rest of the cookie, which initially I thought was cool but it is kind of off-putting and boring. It was not oily, which I really liked. But the flavor was mid, like it lacked in aromatics. It tastes as if it lacks brown sugar, not quite sure how else to explain it. I will say this though: if you are craving a chocolate chip cookie, this will do it for you.

Chocolate-covered strawberry 🍓

I forced myself to take the first bite without removing the frosting and it was…gross. Then I took a bite of the cookie by itself and it tasted like the ratios of ingredients got fucked up. So not too good… the cookie is very pretty but that’s about it. I wouldn’t get again. The frosting is surprisingly tangy, and I think I would have preferred the chocolate cake batter flavor from last week.

Waffle 🧇

I just realized looking at my cover photo while typing this that my waffle cookie does not look the way it is supposed to…it’s missing the waffle marks…and I am tempted to take back my aesthetic comment.

The butter and the syrup are the star of the show. The butter tastes just like butter [my guess is it’s butter-flavored frosting]. Taking a bite of everything together, it’s pretty interesting and tastes like a waffle…a little chaotic though cause now I’ve got syrup leaking into my leftover cookie box. Would I get again? Idk, I’m a little conflicted. 🤷🏻‍♀️

***My overall assessment***

I won’t be going back to Crumbl Cookies, at least not for a very long time so that I might crave it again in like a year and forget that I didn’t even like it too much- oh wait- I actually reviewed Crumbl Cookies this time in my blog so I now have a reference. I feel a little too grossed out after eating some of each cookie, and all of the banana pudding to be considered normal, I feel. I mean it’s not like I ate a ton of it. I can eat several of my homemade cookies and not feel as sick, and they are easily ten times better.

Crumbl is more about getting pretty cookies once in a while, taking an aesthetic photo of them, and splitting each with a loved one while anticipating how delicious or disgusting they are. There’s not much more to it. And the fact that there is an endless amount of controversies surrounding the brand’s business practices gives me the biggest ick. 🤮 Like I feel guilty even eating these and supporting Crumbl. It’s really too bad, because even though the box is a lovely shade of pink and the cookies are really pretty, it’s just a fast food chain of cookies, not exactly a bakery. And it shows with the sand-like consistency and lack of aromatics. If they improve their ingredients and obtain a better reputation by being better employers, they might be able to make a comeback.

Did I forget to mention the Crumbl we visited this Friday evening was literally empty? My husband and I were the only customers.

In comparison to Dirty Dough, Crumbl wins in the aesthetic department. Dirty Dough feels like Crumbl’s little brother with their odd shade of blue color and the logo and everything else feels very juvenile. I haven’t tried anything other than their chocolate chip cookie so I can’t say which is better. I think the biggest problem with Crumbl’s cookies is they taste the way you would imagine wet sand is, mixed with a little sugar.

This morning I re-tried the semi-sweet chocolate chunk cookie and the chocolate-covered strawberry after they sat in the fridge. The chocolate chunk was worse than the night before. After eating it I just feel dissatisfied with the lack of flavor and the texture. The chocolate covered strawberry was better after being chilled overnight, but it is supposed to be a chilled cookie. Our cookies sat in the car while we were at dinner last night and nothing melted, but the frosting was very soft and almost runny. The flavor was still the same though this morning and still not a big fan.

Xoxo 💋
